Café Csiga

Café Csiga

A secret island in the VIIIth district of Budapest. This is the area where you better check twice if you have closed your car properly, and the Rákóczi square where Café Csiga is located was famous of prostitution only.

Times has changed and hopefully Rákóczi square will be famous of Csiga in the future which means "snail" in Hungarian. A friendly, warm café...and pub run by an Irish guy. He is very good at Hungarian with a cute accent and I guess his charme is a great addition to the place.

Café Csiga

Café Csiga is not a fancy place. Officially its a IIIrd category pub but to be honest it doesn't look like those cheap pubs in the cellars or at railway stations. It has a style with its wooden interior and with those country kitchen tables.

  1. When I visited Budapest for one week I ate at Cafe Csiga twice and I loved it. For Americans to get an idea of what kind of food it is, it is mainly soups, sandwiches and desserts, so think of what would happen if Panera Bread Company were to turn into a casual and very friendly sit-down restaurant that serves authentic home-cooked Hungarian food. The prices were comparable to Panera, but the portions and food quality were better.

A good place to go to with 1-7 other friends to relax and socialize.
